Babylonian Dream Magic, with Irving Finkel

The Babylonians used omens all the time and this included naming the types of dreams, which had to be explained and interpreted.  A newly discovered aspect of this activity is a group of very late cuneiform tablets with magic to procure a meaningful dream, and this will be the focus of this illustrated talk.

Dr Finkel is an English philologist and Assyriologist. He is the Assistant Keeper of Ancient Mesopotamian script, languages and cultures in the Department of the Middle East in the British Museum, where he specialises in cuneiform inscriptions on tablets of clay from ancient Mesopotamia.
